Over the past few days, I have been asked by many of my friends what I hope to get from the MBET program, and where I see myself heading once the next year is over. To be completely honest, at this point in time, I am still unsure what sort of career path I will follow, or even what sort of specific position I would want to take. Being faced with these questions, however, I have been forced to try to justify to friends why I choose to leave a decent job, give up a year’s salary, pay tuition, and head back to university – all for a relatively new, non-traditional program.
My number one reason for choosing MBET was the entrepreneurial focus. I am hoping to get the background to be able to take on key strategic positions within small, growing companies, or even start my own. I have spent years in highly technical positions, but have very little formal business education. I hope that completing the MBET program will help me to gain the required knowledge and experience be able to be a key part of successfully building businesses.
One of my other main goals for this year is to greatly expand my network of professional contacts. Working as a software developer, my opportunities for networking and meeting people in different industries was limited. From talking with past students, I have heard that there are limitless networking opportunities through the MBET program, and I am hoping to take full advantage of these!! I am looking forward to opening new doors and exploring new opportunities!!
I have spoken with a number of people who have completed the program, and I have heard nothing but great things about the experience!! They have competed in (and won) business plan competitions, such as LaunchPad $50k, worked on accounting projects that were presented to the CEO’s of large companies, and traveled to various destinations all over the world. I truly believe that this will be a very rewarding year!!
